Day 88

There are two main steps you have to do to lose weight. 1)Exorcise. We all know this one. Cardio, cardio, cardio! In fact, most people will spend hours a day exorcising to lose weight. They may start to look better, but they are not losing weight. Why? Because they are forgetting the most important step. Step 2 - Eating. Yes, in order to lose weight you have to eat. But not just anything. You have to eat healthy, and even then you have to be pretty picky. You can't go out and buy Whole Wheat 7 Grain Bread because its the healthiest bread out there (not really, just picked it out of the blue) and then eat the whole thing in one sitting. No, you have to eat healthy and eat small. Then you have to eat 5 times a day... so then you are thinking, great! I can at a sandwich at least 4 times today and be fine...wrong. Now you have to figure out a way to get in 8 servings of fruit and vegetables. So, now you have to make sure that you are eating a fruit or veggie at each meal. Two if you can! Not too many carbs or fat. Lots of protein but keep your calories under 1500. Oh!! and dont forget the water!!!

Ok, so some of you may find this extremely easy to do...but I am struggling. I have the exorcise thing down to a science. I work a different muscle out everyday. I have built my stamina up to the point where I can wogg 3 miles every day... but I cant get my body to be happy with healthy foods. I have this terrible mind game going on..

"I can eat this...I'll just do a little more cardio tomorrow." or "Hey, I ran 3 miles this morning, I can eat the extra calories today."

We all know this is self destruction. I am going in a vicious circle. I work out to make up for the calories I ate the day before, and I eat because I worked out this morning. AAAAaaaccccckkkkkkkk.

Today I am feeling better health wise... physically I feel beat up. I have been eating too much and I feel my body responding to it. I have no energy...

I am mad... mad at myself for doing this. So this morning I am kicking myself and I will be kicking myself all day. I wogged 3 miles this morning, worked my chest and back muscles and did an abs video workout. I have written down everything I will eat today on SparkPeople and have my calories set.. I WILL NOT eat anything that is not already written down. I will drink my daily 12-15 glasses of water. I will drink tea if I have the urge to cheat. I will do this from now on... I AM GOING TO SEE 189 ON CHRISTMAS MORNING

Your right everything in balance, and not as easy as it sounds. I too am stuck in that vicious circle. Keep up the good work, all the best.

I agree. It's easier said than done. You are my inspiration now - I need to get back to taking care of myself.

Something you might want to try is doing a full body strength thing every second day. that's supposed to fire up your metabolism and burn more calories in the "afterburn" than just body part per day.

And I know what you mean about eating more because you were good and exercised or whatever. Or you'll exercise it off tomorrow. Used to be me. And all that's true - if you want to stay the same. In order to lose, you can't have them "balance out". Anytime you see yourself thinking that, remember that is going to make you stay the same. and you're trying to shrink here! ;)

But nice work on the exercising!

You can do it! You can do it! You can, you can!

That said, it's a b!tch. I know. This time of year is so hard. I'm not even going to get close to goal by the end of the year. But, if I can keep from gaining, then that will be a victory.

Hang in there and keep logging your food. It will get better!

I am glad that you wrote about this - it is so true that exercise is only part of the battle to lose weight. You have to eat correctly as well. My biggest thing to avoid eating junk food is to stay full by snacking on healty foods. If I get too hungry it is all downhill from there - also keep the junk out of the house makes it easier as well. Try telling that to my hubby who enjoys eating chocolate!

Everything I've read lately says that diet definitely trumps exercise when it comes to weight loss. Kinda crappy, cause I'd love to eat whatever junk I want to and then just go run :P Sadly, it doesnt work like that.

You are doing everything the right way, so dont be hard on yourself. The other sad fact is that weight loss is a SLOOOOOOOOOW process - that is, if you are doing it the RIGHT way. You are plugging along, and getting more fit each day....so you should be really proud! You will get to your goal....just keep hanging in there!

Eeks- I have been MIA for a while.

For me eating light is more important that exercising. I have always excercised, my entire life. But I got to my highest weight from eating poorly. It took me about 6 months to get it off - but it was mostly by cutting out crap:
* Soda
* Fast Food
* Bad Carbs - white starches
* Sugar
* Creamy Stuff
* Booze (still can't give that up)

But the second I backslide with food, the weight comes right back (even when i was training for a marathon, aka running 35-40 miles per week).

You gotta find the right balance. And it seems that you are really getting there! Congrats. You'll find Tigerlilly before you know it!
